Tazewell County school districts are joining forces to bring a critical funding question to voters on November 3. A proposed 1% county sales tax — exempt from groceries, medications, and vehicle purchases — would generate revenue to update aging school buildings, strengthen safety, fund mental health support, and invest in technology infrastructure for students across the county.
It is estimated nearly 60% of the revenue would come from non-residents and visitors who shop in Tazewell County, distributing the financial responsibility beyond local homeowners.
The majority of Illinois’ 102 counties have already approved a County School Facility Sales Tax, including every county that neighbors Tazewell. If approved, each district will determine how to allocate its share of the funds according to state guidelines, ensuring local priorities stay local.
We’re committed to keeping our community fully informed before the November 3 vote. We’ll buildout this website for you to see how funds would be used, show projected allocations for each district and have instructions for you to learn where to vote. Please check back soon for more updates.
